A glittering wedding party requires, among other things, the right choice of songs from the DJ. Your wedding will also bring together people from different backgrounds and age groups. To create the right atmosphere, songs that span genres and decades work best. The best wedding songs for a wedding party are songs that are familiar to everyone and encourage everyone to dance and sing along. Your guests don't expect to discover new music trends or styles at a wedding. What counts is the wow effect on the dance floor.

In this blog post, I'll mainly be talking about danceable songs for the wedding party. Don't expect tips for wedding dance songs or suitable music for the wedding ceremony or the church.

The 25 Best Wedding Songs

I admit, I'm going out on a limb with this list. But you have to start somewhere. The following list covers different styles and decades and (almost) always works at weddings. The best wedding songs are songs that will get your guests in the mood and make it hard not to dance. No matter what age. The order of the songs is chosen like this: First the oldest and last the modern ones. I didn't want to create a top 25 of the best wedding songs with an effective ranking - that would be too unrealistic and difficult.

I'm often asked by the bride whether it's boring to always play the same songs. The nice thing is that I don't always have to play the same songs. Firstly, every wedding party is completely different and secondly, there are lots of good wedding songs and styles that work well.

Of course, there are THE best wedding songs that no wedding should be without. But every wedding party has its own preferences and a different taste in music. Some love Latin while others hate it, some get into the mood with house while other guests prefer hip-hop. Some prefer oldies, others modern hit parade songs.

As Wedding DJ you really have to be prepared for anything and always have the right idea at hand thanks to a wide range of music.

As your wedding DJ, I can't just concentrate on the biggest hits. On the one hand, I have to take into account the requirements of the bride and groom and on the other hand, I have to be able to read the wedding party.

I'm amazed at how well I can now judge a party and therefore choose the right wedding songs as soon as I start my DJ set after the wedding dance. It could end disastrously if you simply play hit after hit that doesn't do justice to the bridal couple and the audience present. There are also wedding parties who don't necessarily just want the big hits. One song from the best wedding songs can work perfectly for one wedding party and empty the dancefloor for another. And choosing the right moment for the right song is also of central importance.

Which current and modern hits work at weddings?

What are the nice new good wedding songs from the last 10 years? Are there any? Yes, they do exist. Although hit parade hits are constantly being released that work at the moment but are quickly forgotten, there are some that endure. Here is my top ten of the best wedding songs of the past few years that guarantee a good atmosphere:

What are the most successful pop songs of all time that make good wedding songs? Admittedly, pop is a broad term. Nowadays, popular songs of all genres are quickly labelled as pop songs. But there are still the typical pop songs that will work perfectly at your wedding.

Here are my dance-pop favourites for my selection of the best wedding songs that will hopefully make your heart beat faster (order: new to old):

You can rely on the classics

The nice thing about the well-known classics is that the older generation feels young again and the younger generation also understands these songs. In my opinion, the big hits of the 70s and 80s should not be missing at any wedding.

Personally, I particularly like the disco hits from the late 70s / early 80s. Most of the songs are in a BPM range that can also be combined well with house or pop. These songs are therefore ideal for getting the wedding party going immediately after the wedding dance.

It goes without saying that both in the 70s and especially in the 80s, many other hits were created by first-class bands that can be counted among the best wedding songs. Above all, many new styles emerged in the 80s. Disco gradually became house and funk gradually became hip-hop. There were also the typical 80s styles such as synth pop and new wave, which had a strong influence on the 80s.

Is House suitable for weddings?

And whether house is suitable for weddings! There are some driving house tracks that can be counted among the best wedding songs. But house is a broad term and includes many specific sub-styles (the most common at the moment are deep house, tech house, future house, afro house, progressive house or melodic house).

In my opinion, some styles are very suitable for weddings, others not at all. When I talk about house, I'm talking more about the mass-market, modern mainstream house that also appears in the charts. You definitely can't compare a wedding with a club in Zurich or Berlin, don't forget that.

Latin Hits for weddings

Even if not everyone likes Latin, it is one of the most popular styles. The summer hit is often a Latin track and is therefore automatically one of the best wedding songs. Latin is also very danceable and very suitable for couple dancing.

The most popular styles for a wedding are reggaeton, Latin pop, salsa, bachata and merengue. Each style has some good wedding songs that you can play as a DJ. Having travelled extensively in South America, I am closely connected to Latin and have built up a very versatile Latin repertoire over the years.
